Journey health guide

A practical map of how we define a path, watch its health, and decide when the definition needs retiring.

Team mapping ideas on a wall during a workshop

Every product has a few paths that carry most of the value. This guide explains how we treat those paths as living definitions—not static funnels copied from a template.

You can enter at audit, instrumentation, or readout. Monthly watch retainers pick up after a baseline exists.

How monitoring unfolds

Four stages we reuse and adapt; skip or deepen them based on what you already have.

  1. Name the critical path

We pick one journey stakeholders will defend—entry criteria, steps, and what “healthy” means beyond raw completion.

  2. Mark every step

Events and properties are specified so stalls, loops, and recovery can be measured the same way by different people.

  3. Validate real sessions

Sample journeys are checked on real devices before anyone debates a rate or ships an experiment.

  4. Watch and refresh

After releases or campaign spikes, we re-check fragile steps and retire definitions that no longer match how people move.
